Define the number of high-availability mailbox database copies you plan to deploy. Enter the number of highly available database copies you plan to have within the environment. This value excludes lagged database copies, but does account for both the active and any passive database copies, but includes both the active copy and all passive copies you plan to deploy. For optimal sizing, choose a multiple of the total number of mailbox servers you have selected. Define how many lagged database copies you plan to deploy. Remember that lagged database copies should not be considered database copies. The technical limitation of the number of lagged copies is based on the number of servers in the DAG. The calculator limits you to a maximum of two lagged copies. Define how many mailbox database copies you plan to deploy at the secondary datacenter. Define how many lagged database copies you plan to deploy at the secondary datacenter within a DAG. If you are deploying a site-resilient solution, you can choose to have a portion or all of your lagged database copies deployed in the secondary datacenter. The view as invoked by the controller is, then, a template that is merged with data to produce HTML for the browser. ASP.NET MVC supplies a default view engine that recognizes a syntax that is largely based on the ASPX markup of Web Forms. This allows you to employ server controls in ASP.NET MVC views even though this certainly is not the ideal approach. The development of the view can be made faster by using HTML helper components static methods that emit HTML based on parameters. Unlike server controls, HTML helpers are simple and don t implement any life cycle. In this chapter, we first examined in detail what it takes to process a view and then focused on development aspects, including using HTML helpers, templated helpers, localization, server controls and, last but not least, testing a view. In the next chapter, we ll complete our look at the core of ASP.NET MVC by tackling the third actor of the base MVC pattern the model.

The Database Configuration subsection is used to define your parameters for the number and size of the databases. Microsoft documentation recommends that the database on a non-high-availability Mailbox server should not exceed 200 GB in size. However, for high-availability solutions, Microsoft documentation recommends that databases should not exceed 2 TB in size. You can override these settings in this section, which may be helpful you need to reduce these limits to fit into backup or storage constraints. In this section you can also either allow the calculator to determine the optimal number of databases, or specify your own number. Define the data overhead factor. This should be set anywhere from 20 to 30 percent to account for non-mailbox data storage within the database. How many mailboxes that will be moved each week Mailbox moves generate a large number of transaction logs. The size of these transaction logs needs to be calculated in the size of the transaction log LUN. Will you deploy a LUN dedicated for restore operations on each server An additional LUN will be added into the configuration for you to use to perform mailbox maintenance and restore operations. Define the percentage of free disk space that needs to be maintained on data LUNs. Many organizations like to maintain at least 20 percent free space available on each disk to maintain performance standards and reduce the likelihood of running out of storage space. Will you enable log-shipping compression The default DAG configuration will compress and encrypt the log shipping communication across IP subnets. This setting may add additional CPU load to each Mailbox server; however, it can reduce the bandwidth needed for transaction log shipping. If you plan to enable log shipping compression, what compression rate do you expect to achieve The compression rate varies by environment and by activity within the environment. Microsoft documentation recommends starting with a value of 30 percent. After you deploy Exchange 2010 in your environment you can analyze your compression rate by comparing throughput rates with it enabled and with it disabled.
